OTHER NOTES:

...daughter immediately orphaned...

John Freilich's daughter was born in Chicago and baptized as Eleanor Catherine. She was only six days shy of being two years old and immediately orphaned when John and her mother Hattie perished in the Eastland Disaster. John's sister-in-law also perished that fateful day. Eleanor was raised in her widowed grandmother's household.

John had worked at Western Electric for five years and was one of a contingent of more than a dozen semi-pro baseball players who were going to the picnic. His team was scheduled to play a competing team from the company.
