F.  W. Willard, technical superintendent of the cable works at Western Electric Company in Chicago, was one of the officials of the company on the Eastland when she turned over in the Chicago River. He did not lose his head, but got a life line and threw it to many persons struggling in the water. In this way he saved a large number.
