John T. Cosgrove was a patrolman with the Chicago Fire Insurance Patrol from March 22, 1912, through May 29, 1917. He then joined and served with the Chicago Fire Department until April 16, 1939. While with the Fire Insurance Patrol, he assisted with the rescue and recovery efforts of the Eastland Disaster and was awarded a star from Cook County Coroner Peter Hoffman.
