John Froelich, father
Hattie Zimma (Mrs. John) Froelich, mother
...immediately orphaned...
Eleanor Froelich was born in Chicago and baptized as Eleanor Catherine. She was six days shy of being two years old and was immediately orphaned when both of her parents perished in the Eastland Disaster. Her aunt also perished that fateful day. Eleanor was raised by her widowed grandmother.
The cross she holds in the photo above would turn to be symbolic of her adult life – she became a nun, serving as Sister Virgil until her death at age 90.
