William Holtz was 21 years old and lived at home with his parents, two older sisters, and an older brother. William died aboard the Eastland, although his friend, Emil Nelson, survived.

William's mother Emma was blind, and prior to the disaster the family had been planning to have William give up his employment -- he was planning to stay at home and care for his mother.
