...went below deck to listen to music...
George W. Jost left home early in the morning with a friend to enjoy the Western Electric picnic. After he and his friend boarded the Eastland, George, a violinist, went below deck to listen to the music. George was trapped below deck when the Eastland capsized and perished. His friend, however, did survive.
George's father, Henry, made several trips to the temporary morgue at the Armory building before finally finding and identifying his son's body.
