...pulled a child out of the water by her long blonde hair...
Charles B. Leffert was born in Argos, Indiana. He and his wife, Mary, lived at 4153 Whipple in Chicago. Charles was officially recognized by the Chicago Fire Department "for rescuing persons from the wreck of the Steamer Eastland." He told his family how he pulled a child out of the water by her long blonde hair. However, he did not like to speak of the experience.
