Louise Schiff boarded the Eastland with her brother Ludvik Schiff, a machine hand at Western Electric Company, to enjoy the day's picnic and excursion.

When the Eastland rolled over into the Chicago River, Ludvik was trapped below and could not get out. Louise, who was clutching a box camera in her hand, was saved when someone saw a hand clutching to this item and pulled her out.

Louise was saved, but her brother sadly perished in the Disaster.
