Ludvik Schiff was a machine hand at Western Electric Company. He invited his sister, Louise Schiff, to enjoy the day's picnic and excursion aboard the Eastland.

When the Eastland rolled over into the Chicago River, Ludvik was trapped below and could not get out. Louise, who was clutching a box camera in her hand, was saved when someone saw a hand clutching to this item and pulled her out.

Louise was saved, but Ludvik sadly perished in the Disaster.
