OTHER NOTES:

Josephine Stejskal was a young, 16-year-old tailor making $8 a week. She lived at home with her mother, a widow of nine years, who was her namesake. Her mother had worked hard to keep her family of eight children together. All but three of the nine members of the family worked, yet their combined income was only $29 per week.

Family history suggests that Josephine was an excellent swimmer but was caught below decks.
