Chicago, Illinois -- Following on the heels of yesterday's announcement regarding the Renegade Theater's (Duluth, MN) award for Eastland: A New Musical, EDHS is excited to announce a second award: The Eastland Disaster 100th Anniversary Commemoration Weekend was named by Streetwise Magazine as one of its Top 10 Events in Chicago during 2015.

Ted Wachholz, EDHS executive director and chief historian said: "There were many newsworthy events in Chicago last year, and for a 100-year-old historical event to make top 10 headlines is a testament to the importance and relevance of the tragedy in the lives of people today. It is with humble gratitude and appreciation that the 100th anniversary weekend was selected as one of Chicago's Top 10 Events of 2015 by Streetwise Magazine."

Some of the other top 10 events included:

  • Lack of a state budget
  • Laquan McDonald video
  • South Side receiving a Level 1 adult trauma unit
  • Opening of 606 trail

Streetwise has been an incredible ally to EDHS for many years.
